How it all began
Our popular photography holidays are organised by Bob Atkins who in the past has experienced the frustration of trying to book a special photography holiday via the Internet.
All too often he was not able to talk to a person and questions were dealt with by email or not answered – a real frustration! A personal one-to-one service where people really listened, is what he found to be elusive.
Bob is not a professional photographer! So, what to do? Find a professional photographer – the right kind of photographer, a tutor who listens to what the course guests are looking to achieve and then builds the holiday around the requirements of the group of eight guests. Above all the photographer needs to have a real ability to impart his knowledge to ensure each guest has a really successful holiday. It took Bob more than a year to find the right tutor – Christian Schwetz - and set up our first holiday – that was four years ago.
Today, Bob continues to organise your holiday and the photography is in the capable hands of Christian, a professional photographer and your course tutor.
We help you get off to a good start on your creative adventure – and to ensure that you get personal attention we now limit the holiday course to just eight students who are looked after by Christian and Bob – so everyone gets plenty of personal one-to-one attention. In addition, we talk to our guests to get to know their ability before the holiday begins so that, where possible, we set out the itinerary to best suit all the course members. We also personally explain all that you need to know about your holiday – the venue, locations and all that is involved.
About Us
Christian studied history at Cambridge and gained valuable experience teaching English in Prague. He studied photography at London’s Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design. Early commissions included Czech gypsies and educational projects in South Africa. Recently Christian has worked for the United Nations in Burma and Marie Stopes in Cambodia.
Currently, Christian works on private commissions and editorial commissions concerning rural trades and country sports.
Christian is assisted by Bob who also organises and administers the whole holiday as well as helping with day-to-day operations and attending to the needs of the guests. Christian and Bob have experience in running photography courses in other parts of Italy as well as Spain and the UK.
Our interest in Venice has been inspired by personal visits and holidays over a number of years and our guests will benefit from our personal experience and a good understanding of the best way of getting around Venice and its islands.
